Anonymous whispered:

"why don't you like shailene?"

Let’s get one thing straight: I don’t dislike Shailene Woodley. That being said, she hasn’t done anything to wow me… yet. I mean, The Descendants was a decent film, but that’s all she’s got to her name. (Unless you count The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which you really, really shouldn’t if you’re trying to make a case for her acting chops.) Anyway, all I’ve seen Shailene pull off is ‘irritated teenager with entitlement issues,’ which MJ most certainly IS NOT. Now, I’m not saying she’s incapable of playing my favorite redhead; I’m just saying I haven’t seen anything to suggest that she can.

Also, I’d like to point out the fact that Shailene’s performance in The Descendants, while good, was nothing to write home about. As I’ve said before, she played a pissy teen—nothing more, nothing less. Therefore, I find it kind of ridiculous that she received so much praise. After all, she wasn’t Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver, or Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit, or Tatum O’Neil in Paper Moon. Besides, there’s only one actress I will accept as MJ:

All kidding aside, though, if Shailene Woodley puts in a good performance as MJ, I’ll be the first to admit it. Hell, I’ll jump for joy!

Shailene Woodley Confirmed As Mary Jane Watson

Today is full of good news for Shailene Woodley, as First Showing reports that the actress has been confirmed as Mary Jane Watson for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Woodley made a major splash onto the scene with a spectacular performance in The Descendants, but it looks like 2014 could propel her career to new heights… and away from her soap opera-level role in The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Being cast as Mary Jane is huge. Just last week we got the news that Mary Jane would be included in Marc Webb’s trilogy, and that Woodley was the top candidate for the role. Woodley’s youthful look plays into a younger Mary Jane than the original trilogy, so likely the plot is picking up right where the first film ended.

Not sure how I feel about Shailene as MJ. I mean, she was okay in The Descendants, but - let’s be honest - that’s not saying much. After all, she played a grumpy teen with resentment issues. I’m pretty sure any one of the CW’s lackluster repertoire could have pulled that off (y’know, seeing as grumpy teens with resentment issues are their bread and butter). Anyway, I’ll reserve judgement until I see her performance for myself. I will say this, though: Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy is not turning out how I’d hoped. Then again, did I ever really expect it to be a perfect adaptation? No.

PETER: Tell MJ you love her. Tell her every night, and every morning. And as gently as you can, make her understand… that we all fall, sooner or later. Nobody lives forever. Nobody gets a free pass. What matters is that you go down fighting… and you go down clean.

MARY JANE: I love you, Peter, and I support you in whatever you do, but… please don’t let Norman hurt you again. Our life is about to get real good, and I’d like us to be able to have some fun together for a change. Please don’t become obsessed. Please.

Question for people who know the Spiderman canon better than me (that’s all of you haha)?

villa-kulla:

I’m considering going as Mary-Jane for Halloween! I have some references put aside, but so far what I haven’t been able to find out is if she has a trademark outfit of some kind, in the comics. Does anyone happen to know if there’s a typical look to a costume of Mary-Jane? Thanks if you can help!:)

MJ’s most famous outfit consists of (1) a high-collared, black tank top, (2) a pair of fitted jeans, (3) a thick belt, and (4) a pair of ankle-length go-go boots (preferably white, but black also works). Happy costume hunting!
